Private Ambulance Service Amber Medical First Documented in a Professional Medical Journal — Its Role in HK-EMS】

The latest issue (Volume 32, Issue 4) of the 《Hong Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine》 features a comprehensive literature review on the current state of Hong Kong's Emergency Medical Services (HK-EMS) system, formally recognising Amber Medical, a private ambulance service established in 2022, as part of the overall framework. The authors note that while private companies do not currently play a significant role in the broader HK-EMS system, the private ambulance market is relatively young and still developing. It offers a wider range of services, such as cross-border transfers, and holds potential advantages—possibly even serving as a key player in expanding services across the Greater Bay Area. Its fee-based service model could facilitate the extension and integration of Hong Kong's emergency medical services with other cities in the Greater Bay Area without increasing the government's financial burden.

Amber Medical has consistently strived to address shortcomings in medical transportation by providing ambulance services that meet the needs of border crossings, airports, and private hospitals. Currently, Hong Kong has three private hospitals offering 24-hour emergency department services, yet there is a significant shortage of dedicated ambulance support for these private emergency rooms. Therefore, we are actively exploring and promoting the development of the future emergency medical services market, aiming to further enhance the coverage and sustainability of emergency medical care across various service sectors.
